COVID-19 Wedding Planning

So…you originally planned to get married in 2020. What you did not expect was planning a wedding with COVID-19 as a major influencer of your decisions.

The “normal” stressors, emotions and to-do lists in wedding planning has multiplied with the introduction of a global pandemic. From vendor changes to guest lists cuts and keeping a date versus changing your date are seemingly endless worries for an engaged couple hopeful of a beautiful and perfect 2020 wedding.

As well as adjusting to a new “normal,” couples face the challenge of keeping a meaningful and memorable wedding without sacrificing every aspect of your big day.

Many couples chose to push their wedding date to next year in hopes that the spread of COVID-19 has dissipated, others have carried on with their 2020 wedding by limiting their guest list to a smaller number to create a more intimate setting, some simply forfeited their extravagant plans for a simple elopement, whereas some are left questioning…how to proceed?

I met with Derek & Joey (pictured in this blog) at the beginning of 2020 and they were both excited and hopeful for their July 2020 wedding. As many 2020 couples, COVID-19 quickly shifted their plans. What was supposed to be large wedding at the end of July changed to an intimate backyard wedding with a select group of close family and friends. Both Derek and Joey kept a very positive perspective on such an unplanned situation; they made a quick decision to push their large celebration to a later date, but continued on with their smaller, backyard wedding.

In these un-navigated times, the answer to how to proceed is quite simple…whatever you, as a couple, decide is best for your current circumstance(s). It is easy to get stuck in the gloom-and-doom of COVID-19 wedding planning; however, there are some positive and uplifting perspectives to take on wedding planning:

  1. You are ending up with your person and along the path of life it is not always a simple road; bumps and turns are bound to happen.

  2. The tiny details that seemed of utmost importance, now are just…tiny; our perspective of “meaningful” moments (now more than ever) are weighted and measured by memories.

  3. If you can survive wedding planning during COVID-19, I expect that you have many years of happiness together as a couple, despite any hiccups, mountains or pandemics along the way.

  4. Lastly, when you are ready to put a ring on it, don’t leave out all the special elements that make it your big day; add romance and keep the day special with your bouquet and other floral elements.
